Irrigation
Irrigation is the application of water to support agricultural and horticultural production and keep our sports fields in top condition. In New Zealand over 70% or our water is used for irrigation. It is vital that this water is used efficiently and effectively to prevent wasting both the resource and the energy required to pump and distribute it. Our qualifications in irrigation will train you to evaluate and design irrigation systems.
National Certificate in Irrigation (Evaluation) (Level 4)
Who should enrol?
This qualification is for people working with irrigation systems. It recognises the skills and knowledge of an experienced professional irrigation evaluator.
What does it cover?
General knowledge and skills include knowledge of hazards, hazard control and the consequences of injury in a rural workplace.
Specialist irrigation skills include irrigation systems, their components and performance, hydraulic parameters, irrigation scheduling, efficiency statistics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Trainees will learn how to undertake on-site evaluations of irrigation systems and analyse the data collected to produce a report on its overall performance and its management.
How long does it take?
This qualification takes 6 months to complete and includes 7 days of theory training in the classroom.
National Certificate in Irrigation (Design) (Level 5)
Who should enrol?
This qualification is intended for people who wish to design irrigation systems. Trainees will already have some general knowledge and experience in irrigation prior to specialising in this area.
What does it cover?
General knowledge and skills include planning and designing fixed, movable and micro-irrigation systems, developing operations and maintenance manuals for these systems and calculating key performance indicators (KPIs).
Specialist irrigation knowledge includes irrigation systems and their components and performance, irrigation efficiency statistics, water metering and soil moisture devices, irrigation system installation requirements, how to prepare and record information for a commissioning report, knowledge of pumps and motors and selection for irrigation systems, hydraulic gradeline and control systems.
How long will it take?
This qualification takes 2 years to complete.
